The Allgau Alps are a group of mountains in the Northern Eastern Alps. The mountain lies to the east of Lake Constance, characterizes the Allgäu and has an area of approximately 75 km × 50 km. The states of Germany with the federal state of Bavaria and Austria with the federal states of Vorarlberg and Tyrol have a share of the Alps. At the state border is Germany's southernmost point (borderstone 147) near Haldenwanger Ecks, which also forms the triangle of Bavaria - Tyrol - Vorarlberg. The mountain group stands out for its extraordinary diversity in rock composition and consequently for its diverse landscape. The steep grass mountains of the Alps of Allgäu with slopes of up to 70 degrees are remarkable. The flora is one of the most varied in the whole of the Alps. The development by cable cars and trails is above average. The high-altitude trails from hut to hut are well-known, where the mountain hiker can travel for seven to ten days without descending into inhabited valleys. Due to its location on the northern edge of the Alps, the area is relatively rainy and the most rainy in Germany. In winter, the Alps of Allgäu - at least in the higher mountains - are relatively snow-rich. Even a small glacier and some ice-skating fields have been preserved to this day. The Alps of Allgäu and the Allgäu are not identical. The Allgäu is a landscape that according to today’s understanding (almost only, see Tannheimer Valley) is limited to the German territory. The Allgäu Alps are a mountain group of the Alps. It was defined as part of the Alpine Association's classification of the Eastern Alps into individual mountain groups. Parts of the Alps and the highest peak are already located on Austrian territory. The Allgäu, on the other hand, extends far beyond the Alps in the north and northwest.
