It was a time of questioning old values, rediscovering pre-Christian ideas and setting science and the Modern Age firmly on its course. Maybe not quite dissimilar to our times today, where the World seems to be in flux and transition. Many great works of art, still icons today, were created during this period. They reflected new thinking about the place of humans within Creation and raised the topics of individualism, trade and scientific progress. Depictions of people entered the art sphere, where before mostly saints and other religious subjects were shown; mass media has its roots in that time as the printing press echoed in a time of learning beyond the walls of monasteries. New lands were found across the Seas and trade and modern organisations like stock exchanges were founded. A truly Golden Age.
