Great Wave Off Kanagawa ~ Hokusai Early 19th century Japanese woodblock print by artist Hokusai depicting a great wave threatening boats near the prefecture of Kanagawa. In the background stands Mt. Fuji. Hokusai also painted the masterpiece series Thirty Six Views of Mount Fuji. This wood block print is from the Edo Period employing traditional ukiyo-e technique and is considered a timeless classic of Japanese art, an international masterpiece, as well as one of the most famous works of art of all time.
