Hainan Gibbon is endangered: < 25 left Postcard

About: Gibbons feed on ripe fruit such as figs and mangos, insects and greens. The males are black, with white or golden patches on the cheeks. Females are a golden color with black patches. Both males and females are thin with long arms and no tails. They use their strong arms to swing from tree to tree, called "brachiation". The couples sing duets during mating. A family usually consists of one male and two females. After being hunted nearly to extinction in 2003 (only 13 left) this marvelous ape has recovered somewhat due to government and non-profit protection and support but still their situation is perilous. There are only six breeding females left. A disease outbreak, climate disaster, or other catastrophe could mean the abrupt end of the species.
