Harry S Truman Farm Home, Missouri Postcard

Harry S Truman Farm Home, Missouri Postcard

Rows of maple trees in Autumn color flank the front lawn of the Harry S. Truman Farm Home, also known as the Solomon Young Farm, in Grandview, Missouri. Future U.S. president Harry S. Truman lived in the house from 1906 to 1917 and worked its acreage as a farmer from the ages of 22 to 33. The house is part of Harry S. Truman National Historic Site. Truman left the farm in 1917 to join the Army and in the last five months of World War I, he served in combat in France as an artillery officer in his National Guard unit The house was built in 1894 by Harry Truman’s maternal grandmother, Harriet Louisa Gregg, and sits on 5.25 acres of the family’s former 600 acres farm. It was here, said his mother, that Harry got his “common sense.” There are several original and restored outbuildings on the site, including thGrandview post office-turned-garage that Truman moved to the farm to store his 1911 Stafford automobile. Harry S. Truman (May 8, 1884 – December 26, 1972) was the 33rd President of the United States (1945–53). As the final running mate of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944, Truman succeeded to the presidency on April 12, 1945, when Roosevelt died after months of declining health. After Truman returned to private life he sold portions of the farm for the Truman Corners Shopping Center as well as other Kansas City suburban development. The house and grounds are on the U.S National Register of Historic Places and are a National Historic Landmark.

I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
