Highgarden Greeting Card

11" x 14" Acrylic on canvas English roses, their intricately folded petals weeping color, as though guarding their precious hearts from invaders yet yearning to be shared. Impressionistic in style, or more closely - post impressionism, Highgarden is a floral still life in my Flaahrs series, expanding upon the experimental drip technique I've begun to employ. The looseness of the flower's execution is echoed in the dripping lines, which in turn echo the stems of the roses. Stems which are normally hidden by the foliage and are often only seen after the flowers have been cut and condemned to die in a vase. All of which is a metaphor for loss and sadness and new life and old life and death. A lot to pin on one painting.
