Hindu Temple - Little India, Singapore Postcard

Singapore is one of my favorite cities in the world. I enjoyed it a lot more when the prices were lower but it is still a great place for bargains if you know where to look, and where to avoid. This little country has four national languages, one being Tamil, a language of south India. Little India is an area within the city with a concentration of Indian shops and culture. It has a rather large colorful modern temple with a large rectangular tower. It is covered with painted statues like these, all looking down on passersby. They are all well known deities and important Indian historical figures. In spite of every foot and niche of the tower being inhabited, this does not come close to the entire Indian Hindu pantheon. There are thousands of deities, and the number keeps growing. I read an article about a couple of brothers in a south Indian city who built a large shrine that deified a very popular Bollywood actor who had passed away. So, that's how it happens.
