About This Design
Hokusai - Matsuo Basho Postcard
Hokusai’s Edo school masterpiece “Matsuo Basho”. Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese painter and printmaker of the Edo period. He was recognized during his life as Japans leading expert on Chinese painting. He transformed the Edo style from an art form primarily focused on portraiture of courtesans and actors to one of landscapes, foliage and animals. Although he was an artist all his life he reached the height of his fame after the age of 60. It was during this time he published his most recognized work “36 Views of Mt. Fuji”.
