House Sparrow Father Feeding Teaching Baby Postcard

House Sparrow Father Feeding Teaching Baby Postcard

In house sparrow society, the male assumes the role of teaching the fledglings to find their own food. He starts by sitting outside the nest and screeching at the top of his lungs until they come out. Once the young birds emerge and discover the new world, they quickly learn to fly by fluttering short distances. Father leads them to a source of food, in this case the bird feeder tray on our balcony. Up til now they've been fed insects for the protein. Dad gives them a few mouthfuls of seeds as they shake their wings and open their mouths wide, the "feed me!" signal. Before long they notice the seeds around them, and try a few, delicately at first, then with more enthusiasm. Back at the nest, Mom's already preparing for the next brood. House sparrows average 2-3 broods per summer. House sparrows aren't true sparrows; they're the last remaining species of weaver finch. Photo Sylvia Rose. I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
