Hungry dog in Italy Postcard
Photographed in Padua, Italy in the Palazzo della Ragione. As for the history of the building is likely to think that the place where stands the present palace was built and inhabited at an earlier age. Under the Memory Palace is in fact the Roman and Romanesque sculpted heads placed on the doorposts of the arches of market access under the Living room, are a confirmation. Do not know the exact date of the original construction but already in 1166 there was the lower part of the building that had public functions. The first construction dates back to 1219 and was intended to house the courts and tax offices, a role that was not only in the communal, but, albeit with reduced use, even during the rule Carrara and the whole Venetian domination until 1797. However, it was also home business, this unique function which maintained over time. There is therefore a close relationship between the Hall and justice. The intensification of the mercantile area of the squares called on the municipality to an intervention regularizer who claimed also materially public protection on commercial activities. The first statutes that govern the life of the commune cities date back to the twelfth century and are mainly in the trade and political institutions. The present form is due to Brother John of the Hermits that between 1306 and 1309 did raise the large wooden vault to two caps and add the porch and the lodges covering the stairs. The roof was redone in larch wood trusses, no central columns and covered with lead plates. The spacious living room is accessed through four steps that took its name from the market that took place at their feet: the Scale of Birds (Scale of Osei) the Face of the rope, irons worked, in Piazza delle Erbe, the Scala wine, always Piazza delle Erbe, and fruit in the square. In municipal period must exist a transition suspended (on the genre of the Bridge of Sighs in Venice) that led to the palace from the small loggia used as a neighbor across prisons (now Palace of appropriate, clumsily rebuilt in 800). The building is currently connected with a face to the town hall, and there is no longer the transition to the prisons. On 17 August 1757 a furious wind shook the great building, destroying the roof and scoperchiandolo. Bartholomew Ferracina, watchmaker and engineer of the Serenissima, best known for the construction of the clock in Piazza San Marco in Venice, and also the author of the reconstruction of the Palladian bridge of Bassano del Grappa, provided for the rebuilding of the imposing structure. Transferred to the courts in 1797, the exhibition was opened to great popular gatherings, anniversaries and parties.
