What is Ubuntu Life?
“Ubuntu” is a South African word that means ‘I am because we are.’ Ubuntu Life focuses on interconnectedness and meaningful relationships to create a lasting social impact. They support programs in Kenya that are empowering the communities through job creation. This project aspires to help women who have been marginalized and ostracized from their communities after birthing children with special needs. By providing them with economic opportunity through making products, these women are beginning to thrive and provide their kids with life-changing care and education. Zazzle is proud to be working with Ubuntu Life to create fully customizable ‘Afridrilles,’ as well as many other custom-made products under the name Zazzle Heart.
What is an ‘Afridrille’?
Affectionately named The Afridrille, each customizable African Espadrille is handmade to order by these brave, talented women. The Afridrille comes from the Spanish espadrille style mixed with the local African flair of kanga fabric (a colorful triangle garment worn throughout East Africa) and native African patterns.
