While your photographer can provide you with a standardized list of photos to take at your wedding, many couples feel that those don’t show their personality and the wedding planning to the fullest. If that sounds like you, consider taking a look at these ten unique and special wedding photo ideas and ask your photographer to leave room for them on your big day. You’ll be glad you did!
1. An Invitation Suite Photo
You probably spent a lot of time perfecting your wedding invitation suite, so why not have it make an appearance on the big day! Make sure to bring along a clean example of all the parts and pieces for your photographer to use for a gorgeous flat lay photo.

2. A Ring or Details Photo
The small details can make all the difference on your wedding day, and you certainly don’t want to leave those details out of your photos! Gather your shoes, rings, jewelry, veil, cuff links and any other special outfit accouterments so your photographer can include them.
3. A “Personality” Photo
Just because the intent of a wedding is the same for everyone doesn’t mean your photos have to be! Think of something that is unique to you and your new spouse whether it be your favorite sports team, the location of your first date or your favorite restaurant, and integrate that into a photo.
4. A Generational Photo
A very special photo that you’ll cherish for years to come is a “generational” photo. Get your mom, grandma, great grandma, etc. all together to showcase your wedding rings for a visual representation of your family lineage. Don’t forget the groom! This photo would be great for him to mimic as well.
5. Photos of the Bride & Groom Solo
Sure, your wedding day is all about the union of you and your new spouse, but that doesn’t mean you should skip taking solo portraits! Your wedding day is most likely the most glamorous day of your life, so be sure to memorialize it from head to toe with some solo shots.
6. A “Second” Look Photo
Everyone talks about a “first look”, but what about the second? Take a moment to yourselves after you walk down the aisle and have the photographer capture the first (private) wedded bliss moment.
7. Photos With Your Pets
They’re truly a part of your family, so why shouldn’t they be a part of your special day too? Arrange for a “pet nanny” or family member to be on pet duty and to make sure they’re occupied and cared for until they’re needed for photos. 8. A Thank You Card Photo
If you plan on including a photo from your wedding in the thank you cards, why not go all out and take a special photo just for that purpose! Purchase a sign or banner and take a photo holding it to use for your thank you cards.
9. A Photo in Front of Your Venue
Most of your wedding photos will be focused on a particular person or event, but try and take the time to capture a photo of you and your spouse in front of your venue. It will be a nice keepsake to have a photo of where the big event took place without any guests or distractions in the background.
10. “Fun” Photos
Take the time for some funny photos on your big day! The options for this are endless but some ideas we love are the groomsmen showing off their customized socks, the flower girl and ring bearer covering their eyes during the happy couple’s kiss, the bridesmaids jumping on the bed while getting ready or the newlyweds sneaking in a midnight snack.
Everyone knows that your wedding day is the perfect opportunity to take family portraits that you’ll treasure for years to come, but that doesn’t seem you should limit it to just those photos. Consider some additional fun, personalized photos that let the personality of your and your spouse shine through. Do you have any other unique photos you took or plan to take on your wedding day?
