Independence HALL 1876 Centennial Exhibition T-Shirt

Centenial Hall underwent numerous resurrections and changes over the years. In 1824, in honor of the arrival of Lafayette, the building was completely rennovated and redecorated. In 1828, the steeple was rebuilt due to deterioration and a clock was added. In 1830, the Hall of Independence was restored. On 4 July 1852, the delegates from 10 of the Thirteen Original States met in Independence Hall to consider a plan to erect in the square one or more monuments to commemorate the Declaration of Independence but this move failed. The Rush statue of Washington was added in 1854. In 1848, the Hall was used for public mourning for John Quincy Adams. Henry Clay followed in 1852 and Arctic Explorer, Elisha Clay Kent joined the memorables in state in 1857. It was in Independence Hall that Lincoln lay in state after his assasination. And so this venerable building continues to attract many for its beauty and its history to this date.
