Indian Musical Instruments - Tabla Coffee Mug

Indian Musical Instruments - Tabla Coffee Mug

A simple morning coffee along with your newspaper, gupshup time with old friends, getting to know new ones or just your regular sip as you work. Whatever the occasion, these ceramic mugs with unique, vibrant and creative designs are sure to add that extra zeal to your table and dining collection. Tabla, pair of small drums, is fundamental to Hindustani music. The higher-pitched of the two drums, which is played with the right hand, reffered to as the daya is a single-headed drum usually made of wood. The baya played with the left hand, is a deep kettledrum usually made of copper but may also be made of clay or wood. Skin tension is maintained by thong lacings and wooden dowels that are tapped with a hammer in retuning. The musician plays the tabla while seated, with the baya to the left of the daya. Sound is produced on the drums through a variety of different finger and hand strokes. Each drum stroke can be expressed by a corresponding syllable, used for both teaching and performance purposes. The intricate music of the drums reflects the rhythmic framework of the piece.

It is a lovely mug. The actual mug is shiny and smooth. Very nice quality. It was everything I expected. Zazzle has so many nice mid century modern designs to choose from. All so pretty! The design was very clear and looked expensive.
