Julius Caesar's 7th Roman Legion Decorative Stein
(This history is printed on the side of the glass) This Legion, originally raised by Pompey in Spain in 65 BC, along with the 8th, 9th, and 10th Legions, is among the oldest Legions in the entire Roman Army. They were sent to Gaul in 58 BC when Julius Caesar began his Gallic Campaigns, where they served with distinction against the Nervians in 57, the Venetians in 56, at Britain in 55-54, at Alesia, and against the Bellovaci in 51. During Caesar's civil war with Pompey, the Legion fought at the Battle of Ilerda in 49, at Dyrrhachium, at Pharsalus, and at Thapsus. In 44 the veterans of this Legion received land near Capua, but after Caesar was killed, many of them joined with Octavian, who reconstituted the Legion and used it to obtain more influence that winter. It fought at Modena in 43, Philippi in 42, and at Perugia in 41. When Octavian became Emperor Augustus, the Legion was sent to Galatia, and then to Dalmatia after the Teutoburg Forest disaster in 9 AD. Several inscriptions attest to the settlement of numerous border disputes between Dalmatian towns by officers of the Legion. When the Roman governor of Dalmatia revolted against Emperor Claudius in 42 AD, the Legion quickly put the revolt down, which was when they earned their permanent surname 'Loyal and Faithful to Claudius'. After the chaos of 67-69, Vespasian would owe his throne to the Legion. In 88, it was one of the Legions that invaded Dacia, and it fought against the Dacians again under Trajan. In 116, the Legion restored order in Cyprus after a Jewish revolt. In 193, it was instrumental in Lucius Severus becoming Emperor. The Legion was garrisoning the Middle Danube frontier at the end of the 4th century. Like most Caesarian Legions, its emblem was the bull.

Actually, I didn’t know what to expect when I ordered this mug, but the quality of the mug is over the top. It’s thick, has weight to it, durable, easy to wash... just an overall great product. When I received my mug through the mail, I saw exactly what I saw on the ZAZZLE site: clarity of the image, color scheme, and clarity of the font print. I’ve not had any problems with image or font fading either.
