KEEP COPS OUT OF SCHOOLS TANK TOP

The Indiana School Safety Program was signed into law by Mike Pence and places cops, or "School Resource Officers" in schools with children with only a 40 hour training course on working with kids and school systems. The law reads that these "resource officers" can be hired: – By one or more school corporation or charter schools through a contract between a local law enforcement agency and the school corporation – By a local law enforcement agency that assigns an SRO to a school corporation or charter school through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) – Through a contract between a business that employs persons who meet the qualifications of a school resource officer and the school corporation(s) or the charter school(s) Working in schools, I have seen students unnecessarily disciplined by these officers with minimal training in what is developmentally appropriate and functional for children. I am also sure that you have seen one of the many videos coming to light through news and social media showing violent encounters between grown officers and children as young as elementary-age. There is no reason why cops need to be in schools full-time. Discipline and safety should be enforced by those appropriately trained in education and child development.
