Lamb Won't Let Wolf Enter Postcard
The rain was falling very fast;
Sir Wolf by Miss Lamb's doorway passed;
He paused and knocked. Said he,
"I'll call and beg a cup of tea!"
Miss Lamb peeped through her window-pane;
"Oh no!" she cried, "you knock in vain;
It doesn't matter what you do;
I'm not at home, Sir Wolf, to you!"
A wolf hides behind his umbrella as he knocks at a wood plank door using an iron knocker. The lamb peering out through the window is too smart to let him in. This antique illustration is from an 1899 children's book. There is an old boot scraper attached to the stone stoop and strap hinges hold the door. A nameplate reads, "Mr. Lamb."
