This fun image sums up an old Scots saying, Lang may yer lum reek which translated means Long may your chimney smoke, and which is really another way of wishing someone long life, health and happiness. Lum is Scots for chimney and reek for smoke. The saying goes back to the days when people used coal fires for heat.
