Jack-o'-lanterns, carved with grotesque smiles, leered from windowsills, casting flickering shadows on the revelers. It turned out that the Horseman, the ghost stories, the entire night; it had all been an elaborate scheme concocted by Katrina and Brom to humiliate and eliminate Ichabod. As for the Horseman's head?
