I started my journey with calligraphy in 2014, around the same time I began reading Moby Dick. Why are these related? As I learned more about the beauty of calligraphy and the various styles and tools available, I was plunging headlong into Melville's novel. My interest in the history of whaling started to pique and I researched books on Melville's great work which lead me to "The Whale" by Philip Hoare. I recommend reading his book if you are a fan of Moby Dick. I was practicing various quotes from Moby Dick and experimenting with different Blackletter hands when I saw the t-shirt Mr. Hoare was wearing in his book jacket. I contacted him and unfortunately, the shop that produced this shirt for him closed. I decided at this point to use my calligraphy skills to make my own shirt, and offer it for sale to other folks out there who may have a similar interest.

My 11 yo wore adult XL (5’7” 165#). The 8yo is small framed. She wore adult small and tied it in the back. Dark haired male wore adult large and 5’9”, 110# female wore adult medium . Good quality dark Heather gray, Gildan brand shirt. -it was next up from basic choice and cost about $20 per shirt. Not too thick or thin. Washed and dried well, no major shrinkage. Not see-through. Can wear a bra under it fine. Screen print is just as shown and well done, front and back.
