Lovely Victorian Transferware Floral Tile c1880
This is a reproduction of a Victorian design from the late 1880s. Transferware tiles were originally produced using a decorative technique that was developed in England in the mid-1700s. BY firing the design onto the tile prior to filling in with colors, decorative tiles were produced at lower cost and their popularity spread quickly since they were now far more affordable than labor-intensive hand painted tiles.

From the pictures we needed to replace two tiles that had the old toothbrush and soap dish and the tile guy said two tiles would have to be removed. The tiles were PERFECT! just a slight color difference to the naked eye but they match pretty darn good. Tile guy had to shave the back because the 1957 tile was thinner but as you can see it worked out great! We are elated over the moon happy, Thank you!
