Man Reading a Sundial T-Shirt (Rube Goldberg Art)

ABOUT THIS IMAGE Digitally restored and colorized image from a November 1, 1911 Rube Goldberg cartoon panel, in which the subject of this image goes to a watch maker to have his pocket watch repaired, but the watch maker ends up destroying the man's watch and requesting $87.30 to repair it...so alas, the poor man is forced to tell the time by a sundial. Says the unfortunate man, "It's just nearly exactly half past a quarter to thirteen." (The full comic strip is available as a black and white design in my store.) ABOUT RUBE GOLDBERG COMICS Although probably best known for drawings of highly complicated machines that performed simple tasks, now known as "Rube Goldberg machines" or "Rube Goldberg inventions," Goldberg penned a treasure trove of other cartoons dealing with political, social and comical themes. He created such panel cartoons as Telephonies, Foolish Questions, What Are You Kicking About?, among others...but many of his strips did not deal with a central character, but rather, a single theme that changed from one strip to the next.
