Mechanic Street Bridge Postcard
A photograph of the Mechanic Street Bridge spanning the Israel River near Lancaster, New Hampshire. The Mechanic Street Bridge is an excellent example of the bridge truss developed in the 1840s by Peter Paddleford of Littleton, New Hampshire. The design features a multiple kingpost truss with long counterbraces that helped to distribute loads throughout the truss. Though never patented, the Paddleford truss dominated covered bridge construction in northern New England for over half a century.
