Medieval Russian Bogatyr - Welcome Wood Wall Art
A depiction of a battle between a Russian bogatyr (Богатырь) and an Asiatic warrior, both on horseback. Cyrillic (Russian) text reading "Добро Пожаловать"(Welcome) also appears. Bogatyri are heroic characters found in medieval Slavic epics. They are akin to the knights-errant of Western literature. Most of the stories about bogatyri revolve around the court of Vladimir I of Kiev (958–1015). Some bogatyri are presumed to be historical figures. Bogatyri protected Russian land and people against invaders, especially Tatars. Some were attributed powers and strength which were almost divine. This image is adapted from a black and white line drawing illustration in "Повесть о славных богатырях, златом граде Киеве и великой напасти на землю Русскую" (A Tale of Glorious Heroes From the Golden City Kiev and the Great Scourging of the Russian Land) by Tamara Likhiotal; published in the USSR in 1974.

I am especially impressed with the hanging and display setup that these come with. You can easily hang them vertically or horizontally on the wall (with included screws & wall anchors), using the nail guides on the back side of the wood piece. Or, you can display your art on a shelf using the simple easel stand that comes with each wood print that you order. The sturdy birchwood is the perfect canvas for intricate and sharp designs with an abundance of text (and looks great with printed photographs too!).
Even with a fully printed background, you are still able to see the texture and pattern of the wood peeking through the design. Rather than printing white ink in the design, the natural colors of the wood shine through, giving it such a unique look!
