Seville is a city in the south of Spain, the capital of the autonomous community of Andalusia and the province of Seville. It is the fourth most populated city in Spain, a major industrial and commercial center, as well as a tourism center. Located on the plain, on both sides of the Guadalquivir river. The history of the city began from the 3rd millennium BC. e., when the territory of Seville, a Phoenician settlement Sefele. The ancient part of Seville consists of a labyrinth of narrow streets. Among the houses there are both buildings built in the ancient Roman style, and buildings in the style of eastern architecture - many houses have flat roofs and a maximum of two floors. Among the sights of Seville is worth noting Seville Cathedral (Cathedral of Maria de la Sede), built in 1401-159. on the site of the former mosque. The Cathedral of Seville is the third largest Christian cathedral in the world (after the cathedral of St. Peter in Rome and St. Paul's in London), and from the Gothic - the largest. The Giralda is a bell tower 114 meters high with rich patterns and ornaments, containing 22 harmonically tuned bells. It was built in 1196 by Abu Yusuf Yakub. A 32-meter superstructure was added in 1568. The fortress-palace of Alcazar was built in 1350-1369. The palace is one of the best preserved examples of Mudejar architecture. Added later Gothic elements contrast with the prevailing Islamic style. The sights of the city include the ererro-built exchange with the famous American archive; A vast building founded by the Diego Columbus School of San Telmo; Torre del Oro, a twelve-sided tower on the banks of the Guadalquivir; Theater of St. Francis, the Archbishop's Palace and the Museum of Fine Arts. Seville bullring Maestranza is the second largest arena in Spain after Madrid. In the city there is the so-called "Pilate's House" - a palace built as a mixture of Mudejar and Spanish Renaissance styles. The Seville Cathedral, the Alcazar Palace Complex and the General Archives of India were registered in 1987 by UNESCO as World Heritage sites.
The Alcazar of Seville is the royal alcazar in the city of Seville (Andalusia, Spain). The Alcazar, (derived from Arabic, meaning "fortress", "fortified castle") - the name of the fortresses or palaces in Spain, built during the reign of the Arabs, between the VIII and XIV centuries. Palaces built in the Moorish style after the expulsion of the Arabs are often also called alcazaras.
Initially, the Alcazar of Seville was a fort of the Moors, several times expanded. The first palace was built by the Almohad dynasty. Most of the modern complex was built on the ruins of an Arab fortress by the King of Castile, Pedro I, the beginning of the construction date back to 1364. The palace is one of the best preserved examples of Mudejar architecture. Added later (during the reign of Charles V), Gothic elements contrast with the dominant Islamic style. For almost 700 years it was the palace of the Spanish kings. The upper chambers of the Alcázar are still used by the royal family as the official residence in Seville.
In size, the Seville Alcázar is inferior to the ensemble of the Alhambra in Granada. Intricate floors, ceilings and walls are skilful works that reach the greatest heights of elegance and luxury in the room of Charles V and in the Ambassadorial Hall. The maiden patio is known for its friezes, tiles and stucco moldings. The general sensation of an elegant summer shelter is complemented by beautifully trimmed gardens with fragrant roses and orange trees along the avenues.
