Meredith "Pastorals" Victorian Postcard

Postcard: "Pastorals" (George Meredith), vintage art and historical poetry with a modern twist. A group of friends enjoy a picnic and a beautiful landscape in this lovely Victorian illustration of 1846 by Daniel Maclise and T. Landseer. The original black-and-white engraving is in the public domain, and I've remixed it with a modern twist by digitally hand-colouring it. To complement the enchanting imagery, I've incorporated two stanzas of the beautiful 1851 poem Pastorals (I) by George Meredith: "How sweet on sunny afternoons, / For those who journey light and well, / To loiter up a hilly rise / Which hides the prospect far beyond, / And fancy all the landscape lying / Beautiful and still... // No disenchantment follows here, / For nature's inspiration moves / The dream which she herself fulfils; / And he whose heart, like valley warmth, / Steams up with joy at scenes like this / Shall never be forlorn." This pretty postcard is perfect for the 21st-century lover of 19th-century art and poetry, on any occasion.
