This design features the national flag of Mexico (México), which is officially known as the United Mexican States (Estados Unidos Mexicanos). Mexico is a country in the southern region of North America. The Mexican nation is bordered to the north by the United States; to the south and west by the Pacific Ocean; to the southeast by Belize, Guatemala and the Caribbean Sea; and to the east by the Gulf of Mexico. Mexico is organized as a federation comprising 31 states and Mexico City, which is its capital and largest metropolis. Other major cities in Mexico include Tijuana, Ecatepec, León, Puebla, Juárez, Guadalajara, Zapopan, Monterrey, Nezahualcóyotl, Chihuahua, Mérida, Cancún, Saltillo, Aguascalientes, Hermosillo, Mexicali, San Luis Potosí, Culiacán and Querétaro.
