Middelgrunden Wind Farm, Oresund, Denmark Postcard

Middelgrunden is an offshore wind farm in the Oresund 3.5 km outside Copenhagen, Denmark. When it was built in 2000, it was the world's largest offshore farm, with 20 turbines and a capacity of 40 MW. The farm delivers about 4 percent of the power for Copenhagen. The large and slow turning turbines of this offshore wind farm near Copenhagen take advantage of the moderate yet constant breezes at this location. While the wind at this location isn't strong, it's very consistent, with the turbines generating substantial power over 97 percent of the time. The Oresund or Oresund Bridge (Danish: Oresundsbroen, Swedish: Oresundsbron, joint hybrid name: Oresundsbron) is a double-track railway and motorway bridge across the Oresund strait between Scania (southernmost Sweden) and Denmark. The bridge runs nearly 8 kilometers (5 miles) from the Swedish coast to the artificial island of Peberholm, which lies in the middle of the strait. The crossing of the strait is completed by a 4 km (2.5-mile) underwater tunnel, called the Drogden Tunnel, from Peberholm to the Danish island of Amager. The term Oresund Bridge often includes this tunnel. The Oresund Bridge is the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe, and connects two major metropolitan areas: Copenhagen, the Danish capital city, and the major Swedish city of Malmo. It connects the road and rail networks of the Scandinavian Peninsula with those of Central and Western Europe. A data cable also uses the bridge to carry all Internet data transmission for Finland.
