Mother Catbird Gathers Berries to her Feed Babies Postcard

I took this photograph of a gray female Catbird at Rock Island Conservation Club in Milan Illinois. This catbird is sitting in a mulberry tree and is carrying a couple unripe, green berries in her mouth. The mother bird is gathering food to feed her growing family. It was a beautiful spring day, without a cloud in the sky. The gray catbird (Dumetella carolinensis), also spelled grey catbird, is a medium-sized northern American perching bird of the mimid family. It is the only member of the "catbird" genus Dumetella. Like the black catbird (Melanoptila glabrirostris), it is among the basal lineages of the Mimidae, probably a closer relative of the Caribbean thrasher and trembler assemblage than of the mockingbirds and Toxostoma thrashers.
