National Route 4 is a national highway that runs from Chuo Ward, Tokyo Prefecture to Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture. It is the longest national highway in Japan. It runs side by side with the Tohoku Expressway from Saitama Prefecture to Iwate Prefecture and the Hachinohe Expressway from Iwate Prefecture to the south of Aomori Prefecture (in the railway lines, it runs side by side with the Tohoku Shinkansen, the Tohoku Main Line, the IGR Iwate Galaxy Railway and the Aomori Railway Line for almost all sections. From Adachi Ward, Tokyo to Kuki City, Saitama Prefecture, the Tobu Isesaki Line and the Tobu Nikko Line, and from Shichinohe Town, Kamikita-gun, Aomori Prefecture to Noheji Town, the former site of the Nanbu Jukan Railway Abolition Track, and each ran side by side.
