All was silence in the woods
save for the gentle crunch
and squish of layer upon layer
of fallen leaves
beneath measured footfalls.
Stopping,
breath and heartbeat
could only be heard
by the traveler.
Yet pausing longer
upon a fallen tree,
nature’s amphitheatre seating,
the faint sound of violins played.
Strumming through vein and blood,
the reverberation of rock.
The song of life.
All was silence in the woods
save for the gentle hush
of this holy place.
