Nefertiti was the Great Royal Wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten, who ruled ancient Egypt from 1353 to 1336 BCE. Akhenaten and Nefertiti implemented a religious shift that sent shockwaves throughout the kingdom, instituting a single cult for the sun god Aten, eschewing all other gods. After Akhenaten's death, Nefertiti is believed to have ruled as Pharaoh for a short time before the rise of Tutunkhamun.
