Neptune Ring System hundreds of galaxies Webb Apron

The Webb telescope’s powerful infrared vision allows us to see Neptune in a new light, revealing features that were previously difficult or impossible to observe. The image shows Neptune’s atmosphere in great detail, including the bright spots and dark storms that are characteristic of gas giants. The rings are also more clearly visible than ever before, appearing as faint, dusty bands around the planet. In the background of the image, there are also hundreds of distant galaxies, which are visible because the infrared light they emit has been stretched out by the expansion of the universe. These galaxies are so far away that they appear as tiny smudges of light, but they are each a vast collection of billions or even trillions of stars. - This file is in the public domain because it was created by NASA, ESA and CSA.
