Neurons! T-Shirt

To paraphrase a famous hypothetical posed by physics ubernerd RPF: if all of humanity's knowledge were to be destroyed in some great cataclysm and only a single sentence could be passed on to the next generation, what sentence would contain the greatest amount of information in the fewest words? We think it would go something like this: your brain is made up of a large collection of cells that communicate with one another using discrete pulses, these having the net effect that some pulses make it more likely that the receiving cell will itself emit spikes, while others make it less likely. Within that one sentence is a wealth of information, if only a little thinking and imagination are applied. Happy neurons on shirt front, spike train on back. Neurons!
