The colors evoke the flags of Habsburg Spain (the Cross of Burgundy) and the Crown of Aragon, brought by the conquistadors. The capital city of New Mexico is Santa Fe. Other major cities in New Mexico include Las Cruces, Rio Rancho, Roswell, Farmington, Clovis, Hobbs, Alamogordo and Carlsbad.
