Night (Star of Heaven) - Ornament

Edward Robert Hughes, 1849 - 1914, was a gifted artist whose perfectionism and ambitious techniques helped him to render studies that were good enough for exhibition. A member of the Royal Academy Schools and Royal Watercolor Society, Hughes was a Pre-Raphaelite whose work drew upon Italian literature and Shakespearean themes, was filled with rich blues, gleaming gold’s, diaphanous fabrics, and mysticism. This painting is usually found under the title “Night”, but the words “Star of Heaven” are often part of the title. Painting done with watercolor, body color, and charcoal; ‘Night’ is wearing a crown of brilliant, shinning stars.
