This Art Nouveau illustration for the Christmas story "The Nutcracker" makes an elegant keepsake ornament that you can personalize as you like. "The Nutcracker," which inspired Tchaikovsky's ballet, is the essence of Christmas. Artur Scheiner, a Bohemian painter and illustrator, painted this beautiful image from the story that inspired it, E.T.A. Hoffman's "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King," in 1924. It shows Clara (or Mary, as she is called in the book) opening her bedroom door and beholding the Nutcracker, who has come to life. The deep shades of blue and the beam of light suggest the magic of Christmas Eve.
