Odin rides an eight-legged horse through the waves. In Norse mythology, Sleipnir is mentioned in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. According to both sources, Sleipnir is Odin's steed; the child of Loki and Svaðilfari. Sleipnir is the best of all horses, and is sometimes the horse who is ridden to Hel.
