Oedipus and the Sphinx by Gustave Moreau Throw Pillow

Oedipus and the Sphinx by Gustave Moreau Throw Pillow

Oedipus and the Sphinx, an 1864 oil painting by Gustave Moreau, depicts the scene from Sophocles' tragedy Oedipus Rex where the young ruler must answer the Riddle of the Sphinx lest he be torn apart and eaten by the malevolent, mythological beast. The Sphinx, with the body of a lion, wings of an eagle and head of a woman, pounces upon her prey and stares into his eyes in anticipation. Moreau's classical figuration draws upon the arts of the archaic periods of pre-Classical Greece as well as the Classical, with great influence of the Medieval, Renaissance and 19th century neo-Classical masters. Gustave Moreau exhibited with great success in the late 19th century French Salon, and later became a professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris. His noteworthy students included the Modernist Fauve painters Henri Matisse, Albert Marquet, and Georges Rouault. Moreau’s work has much in common with classical 19th century French painters such as Ingres and Delacroix, but he is usually considered part of the French Symbolist movement for his literary, archaic classical style and religious and mythological subject matter.

Fabric is very nice and of good quality. I like that there are many colors to choose from and you can have a different color on the back side if you choose. The pillow was to be 16" x 16" but ran a bit small. (14.5") Still happy just recommend you get a larger size . Design came out great. Colors were vivid and the overall quality is quite nice. Will definately order again. Highly recommend because it not only shipped super fast but overall I love the results!

I wanted something special for my daughter. I made this for my baby and she will have this in her crib when she is born. It was not pixelated. The picture was very very clear.0

This pillow has a striking design that comes from an original piece of art by artist Debbie Gibbs to celebrate the intersection of identities. It makes a unique gift for anyone wishing to message equality, inclusion, equity and justice. Placed just so in an office or home, it makes a strong statement. We love i on our covered patio/outdoor kitchen. It is holding up very well outside. Outstanding print quality!
