As colorful as any sunset, the dawn broke overcast but was quickly lit up with the bright rays of the sun in a meadow beside a spruce-fir forest in the Bear River Range in southern Idaho. The trees silhouetted against the sky are Engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii) and Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii). The Bear River Range, also known as the Bear River Mountains, are located in northern Utah and southeastern Idaho. The mountains form the northern extension of the Wasatch Range in central-north Utah, which is itself a part of the larger Rocky Mountains.
