Today, it is best known for its proximity to Lake McConaughy, the largest lake in the state, offering white sand beaches in the middle of the plains. From the highway, the town presents a classic Western horizon. The landscape is a mix of high prairie and the hints of the rugged canyons that lead toward the reservoir, with the town itself acting as a gateway to the water.
