Old Woman with a Skeleton (Death) (Francisco Goya) Tissue Paper

This design features a painting by the Spanish artist Francisco Goya (1746–1828). It shows an elderly woman (sometimes described as a witch) eating soup from a bowl with a spoon. Next to her is a skeleton, symbolizing the inevitability of death and mortality. The artist, Francisco Goya, was experiencing a period of depression and disillusionment when he painted this artwork. It was originally painted as a mural on the wall of the Quinta del Sordo [Villa of the Deaf]. There was another accompanying work featuring an old man with a skeleton. This work is one of the Black Paintings that were completed towards the end of Goya's life and depict intense, bleak and haunting themes.
