This scene from Orange Beach, Alabama was almost a picture that didn't happen. While I was taking shots of the gorgeous sunset, I saw this fellow fly in, looking for crabs to eat. Just as I was moving in to take my shots of him, I heard two small children pounding up the beach behind me squawking about the big bird. Thankfully, their mom caught them before they could scare the heron away. Thank goodness for small favors!
