Oshiki with triangular characters leather wallet
The oshiki is also called Sumikiri kaku. The character 'three' is a symbol of Mishima Daimyojin, also known as Oyamatsumi no Kami, enshrined in the Seto Inland Sea. This deity is not only the god of mountains but also the god of the sea, and its divided spirit was invoked throughout Japan. (Niwa Keiji, '100 Stories of Family Crests, Vol. 2') / The name of this crest varies: 'Mon Den' refers to it as 'Sumikiri kaku with triangular characters', 'Mon no Kokoro' and 'Standard Collection of Crests' as 'Sumikaku kiri mikigi', 'Heian Monko' and 'Mon no Izumi' as 'Sumikiri kaku with mikigi', 'Edo Monsho' as 'Sumikiri with mikigi', and 'Monsho Dai Shusei' as 'Sumikiri kaku with three branches'.
