Pagodas and Balloons Sunset at Old Bagan Myanmar Postcard

This postcard features pagodas and balloons at sunset in Old Bagan, Myanmar (formerly Burma). The Bagan Archaeological Zone, the 13 x 8 km area centred around Old Bagan consisting of Nyaung U in the north and New Bagan in the south, lies in the vast expanse of plains in Upper Burma on the bend of the Irrawaddy river. It is located in an active earthquake zone. In 1975, a major earthquake damaged many temples, some irreparably. In 2016, another major earthquake destroyed 400 temples. The Bagan Archaeological Department with the help of UNESCO started a survey and reconstruction efforts. Visitors are prohibited from entering 33 damaged temples.
