Palanque Mexico Postcard
Palenque, located in the state of Chiapas, Mexico, is one of the most breathtaking Mayan archaeological sites, surrounded by the dense jungles of the Lacandon Rainforest. Unlike larger cities like Chichén Itzá, Palenque is known for its intricate carvings, well-preserved temples, and detailed hieroglyphics, which provide deep insight into Mayan mythology and history. The city thrived between 600 and 800 AD, reaching its peak under the reign of King Pakal the Great, whose tomb was discovered inside the Temple of the Inscriptions, one of the most significant pyramids in the Mayan world. Other notable structures include the Palace, with its iconic four-story tower, and the Temple of the Cross complex, which features stunning bas-reliefs depicting Mayan gods and rulers. Walking through the ruins, with howler monkeys echoing in the distance and mist rising from the trees, gives visitors an almost mystical experience.
Beyond the ruins, Palenque is a gateway to some of Mexico’s most stunning natural wonders. Just a short drive away, visitors can explore the Agua Azul waterfalls, famous for their cascading turquoise waters, and the Misol-Ha waterfall, where a curtain of water plunges into a serene jungle pool. The region is also home to rich indigenous traditions, particularly those of the Lacandon people, who have preserved many aspects of their ancient way of life. In the nearby town of Palenque, visitors can enjoy traditional Chiapanecan cuisine, including tamales chiapanecos and cochito al horno (slow-roasted pork). Whether you’re drawn to its archaeological wonders, lush rainforest landscapes, or cultural richness, Palenque offers an unforgettable journey into Mexico’s ancient past and natural beauty.

I had never seen these classic science fiction images and most of my friends have not seen them either. They are like little treasures! Amazing quality and fun to send people!

I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
