Genus Leucochloridium are parasitic flatworms known for turning snails into "zombies." Transforming the snail's eye-stalks into colorful, pulsating brood sacs, the parasite forces its host to crawl out in the open where it can be seen by birds, who mistake the sacs for tasty caterpillars or maggots. Biting off the snail's tentacles, the bird will spread thousands of worm eggs in its feces while the snail simply regenerates to repeat the bizarre process again and again.
