Petrified Forest National Park Arizona Postcard

Petrified Forest National Park is located in northeastern Arizona and features vast deposits of petrified wood. These ancient logs, dating from the Late Triassic epoch, have been preserved through a process of permineralization, where minerals like silica replace the organic wood, transforming them into colorful quartz crystals. The park is set in a dramatic, colorful badlands landscape known as the Painted Desert. Visitors can hike through fields of massive petrified logs and view ancient petroglyphs and ancestral Puebloan ruins, such as Puerco Pueblo.
