Pink Hawthorn Handfasting Card

For those looking for a handfasting card with Pagan symbolism, this one has it in abundance. The flowers are hawthorn, in a picture taken at Beltane. That's a hedgerow tree very much associated with the Lady at this time of year. She's in Her aspect as the May Queen then, and it's the hawthorn which blooms with May Blossom. The ancient Greeks also used to carry sprigs of hawthorn into their weddings, as it was believed to bring good luck. However none of this is why I chose to take the picture. It was the colors. The Maiden's hue is white and the Mother's is red. Ok, the hawthorn blooms aren't exactly red, but they're in the right vicinity. The bride is passing from a traditionally Maiden role into that of the Mother, which is why so many Pagan brides like to wear red for their handfasting ceremony. The only downside is that the groom doesn't get a look in with this card, other than by association.
