Pink St. Agatha (M 003) Postcard 2

National Mammography Day is observed annually on the third Friday in October as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. (Check your calendar and customize this postcard with the appropriate date!) St. Agatha is invoked against breast cancer. Here, in this detail from a famous Italian Mannerist painting, her garments have been changed from cream and light teal to shades of pink. Pink is the internationally recognized color symbolic of breast cancer awareness. + Adapted detail of an antique chromolithograph published between 1895 and 1907 by A. & M. B. of a painting The Martyrdom of St. Agatha, Virgin (Martirio di Sant'Agata) by Filippo Paladini (1590-1614) in the Cathedral of St. Agatha (Cattedrale di Sant'Agata or Duomo di Catania), Catania, Italy (from the designer’s private collection of religious ephemera). The original 1605 painting is located in the Chapel of St. Agatha, the fifth along the left-hand side of the cathedral's nave. + Feast: February 5

I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
